Merry Christmas Stick Man family recipe

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and some quality time with your family with this fun recipe.

This recipe is based on a Christmas Yule Log, converted into a Stick Man family at the request of my three-year-old son. I hope you and your family enjoy these cute, festive cakes.

For the cake mixture:

3 large eggs

85 g golden caster sugar

85 g plain flour

2 tbsp cocoa powder

½ tsp baking powder

For the icing and decoration:

50 g butter

140g dark chocolate, broken into small pieces

1 tbsp golden syrup

5 tbsp double cream

200 g icing sugar

1 pack of Matchmakers®

1 pack of edible eyes

Yellow ready-to-roll icing (optional for Stick Lady Love)

Green leaf sugar decoration (optional for Stick Man)

Step 1:

Heat the oven to 200C/180 fan/gas 6. Line a Swiss Roll tin (32cm x 23 cm) with baking parchment.

With an electric whisk, beat the eggs and sugar together for about 5 minutes until thick and creamy.

Step 2:

Mix the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder) together.

Sift onto the egg mixture and fold in very carefully.

Pour into the tin and spread into the corners of the tin by tipping it from side to side.

Step 3

Bake for 10 minutes, remove from oven and tray and leave to cool on a wire rack.

Step 4

To make the icing, place a bowl over a pan of hot water. Place the butter and dark chocolate into the bowl to melt.

Remove from the heat and stir in the golden syrup and 5 tbsp of double cream. Beat in the icing sugar until smooth.

Step 5

Spread the icing over the cake and use a fork to mark the icing to give the effect of a stick.

Cut the cake into your Stick Man family (2 longer ones for Stick Man and his Stick Lady Love and 3 shorter ones for the stick children three).

Decorate with the edible eyes. Snap the Matchmakers to make the noses, arms, and legs and decorate the Stick Man family with them.

Roll small pieces of yellow ready-to-roll icing into the hair for Stick Lady Love and decorate her head with it. Add two green leaves to Stick Man’s head.

Arrange as a family and serve with whipped double cream.
